What is cellular vitality? All living organisms depend on efficient energy generating processes at the cellular level. When cells are generating energy efficiently we call that state vitality. Everyone needs cellular vitality to be healthy. Babies need vitality to grow well. Vitality heals injuries faster, protects against infections, and increases stamina. Vitality helps prevent degenerative disease processes. It can even help to reverse them.
If you are an athlete or simply need more energy to handle the affairs of your life; if you are sick or just tired; or if you simply want a healthier, happier life, you need more cellular vitality! And this issue will show you how to get it.

Vitality - Cellular Energy - Metabolism
Cellular Energy Systems
We can think of our mitochondria as little energy factories inside our cells, These factories take raw materials and turn out the finished product, which in this case is energy. Specifically, that energy takes the form of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), a high-energy molecule used to power other cellular processes. If the factory doesn't have the right raw materials, then it cannot produce the finished product. So, let us take a closer look at the things our mitochondria factories require to operate at maximum output.
Oxygen Delivery
First and foremost, our cellular factories require a supply of oxygen because oxygen is used to "burn" or oxidize nutrients in order to release their energy. This oxygen must be held in check so its oxidizing power is not utilized until it reaches the mitochondria in our cells. Otherwise, it will combust prematurely and burn things we don't want it to burn. Proper oxygenation starts with deep breathing and healthy lung tissues. It continues as the red blood cells deliver oxygen from the lungs to the cells. Antioxidants are also part of the process, as they prevent oxygen from burning out of control.
So, oxygen delivery starts in the lungs. Breathe deeply. If your lungs are weak and dry or if you wheeze or experience shortness of breath, try tonifying your lungs, with Chinese Lung Support (LH-C) or Cordyceps.
If circulation is impaired, it can be improved with the Mega-Chel program. Other nutrients can improve the oxygen-carrying capacity of red blood cells.
These include the following:
Chlorophyll has a special reputation for improving the oxygen-carrying capacity of red blood cells.
An organic form of Germanium has an oxygen-sparing capacity that is important for people with poor oxygenation. Finally, it contains iron in an herbal form that helps build healthy red blood cells.

From Dr. Kasuhiko Asai, Ph.D. (Disease - acidity -oxygen)
Although I shall refer to the reason for ill health together with the conditions for treatment of disease on many occasions, perhaps it would be useful to summarize the causes for an oxygen deficiency in the body at this point since this seems to be the root of all body disorders.
1. Though acidity has long been recognized as a problem, perhaps one reason why ill health is so rampant is that most people do not bother to find an adequate explanation as to why this condition is detrimental to health.
Although it may sound complicated, the scientific answer is rather simple. An acid constitution means that the blood contains an excess of positive hydrogen ions (H + ) which use up the oxygen in a living body by combining with it to form an hydroxyl group. When an excess of (H + ) accumulates in the body, there is insufficient oxygen to consume them. As a consequence, the blood will acidify and an oxygen deficiency will be created. The problem of oxygen deficiency has also become a controversy in recent years. An acid constitution should be averted by all means. An acid constitution leads to an oxygen deficiency which results in various diseases, including cancer.
2. The intake of foods which contain an excess of unsaturated chemical compounds can be noted as another major cause of oxygen deficiency. Unsaturated compounds have a surplus of molecular "hands" which combine with oxygen in the body to produce oxonium compounds, thereby depleting the body's supply of oxygen. The chemical nature of substance is to move from an unsaturated state at which they can establish their existence. In this context, it is important for those who want to stay healthy to note that natural foods contain the fewest unsaturated compounds, while these compounds are conspicuously abundant in refined foods. In my mind, carcinogenic or cancer producing substances and unsaturated compounds with their excess of molecular "hands" to use up the available oxygen in the body are one and the same.
3. The other major cause of oxygen deficiency in the body, perhaps that to which we should pay the most attention, is the mind theory of Professor Hans Selye of the University of Montreal, Canada, is that not only humans but animals develop an unbalanced secretion of hormones, particularly adrenal hormones, if subjected to prolonged stress. An imbalance hormone secretion will also lead to acidification of the blood and thereby create a condition for oxygen deficiency which ultimately results in disease.
With the recent remarkable progress in biochemistry, many warnings have been issued on the relationship between health and diet. Moreover stress is fast becoming recognized as a major cause of disease. Again, I wish to re-emphasize the necessity of maintaining a constitution that will not produce an oxygen deficiency. This is a conclusion reached after several years of laboratory work with the organic germanium compound and, to date, all the facts have supported it without exception.
Balanced Nutrition
Besides oxygen, our cellular energy factories also require fuel. There are three categories of nutrients which supply this fuel. They are fats, proteins and carbohydrates.
As was the case with oxygen, obtaining these components for our cellular factories depends on multiple factors. Our digestive system must be in good working order to be able to break down the foods we eat into the simple components needed by our cells. These nutrients must then be transported via the bloodstream to the cells
Enzymes are critical to this process. Enzymes are natural biochemicals that act as catalysts to enable important chemical reactions to take place. Different enzymes are required at each stage of our energy production cycles and each stage must finish before the next one begins. The process begins with the enzymes in our digestive tract, which break the various foods we eat down into simpler compounds.
Live or raw foods build cellular vitality more rapidly than cooked foods, partly because of the enzymes they contain and partly because their nutrients are more readily bioavailable. Supplementing our diet with enzymes can partially compensate for our primarily cooked food diet. Proactazyme and Protease Plus are both valuable for helping process food and increasing vital energy in the body.
Enzymes, particularly the protein-digestive enzymes such as High Potency Protease, are especially valuable in increasing cellular energy when taken between meals.
When applied topically, the enzymes in Nature's Fresh can also enhance cellular vitality. This can result in more rapid tissue healing, reduced pain and rapid reversal of injury.
Organic Acids
Once oxygen and nutrients have been delivered to the cells, our mitochondria require specialized nutrients to process these raw materials into energy. An important part of this energy producing cycle is a series of organic acids such as citric and malic acid. Citric acid is so important to the Kerbs cycle that it is sometimes called the citric acid cycle. These organic acids are primarily found in fresh fruits and berries. Herbal berries such as elderberry, cranberry, bilberry and others are good sources of these acids. Lemon juice is another important source. This explains why these substances have a refreshing quality when ingested in their natural form-they enhance cellular energy production.
A variety of vitamins, minerals and cofactors are also needed to produce energy in the cell. Cellular Energy provides these nutrients in one formula. It includes vitamin E and a variety of B vitamins, as well as the minerals zinc, magnesium, and manganese, all of which are required by the mitochondria.
Two other formulas that enhance energy production in the cells are Fibralgia, which contains magnesium and malic acid, and Target Endurance, which contains minerals and amino acids in a base of herbs. Both of these formulas enhance the cell's ability to produce energy.
Waste Removal
Once the energy has been produced, waste products must be removed. Waste is removed from the body by the major eliminative organs: lymphatics, liver, lungs, kidneys, skin, intestines. Lymphomax and Lymphatic Drainage also help to carry wastes directly away from the cells by enhancing lymphatic flow. Enviro-Detox or All Cell Detox may be used to support the function of the liver and intestines, while Kidney Drainage improves the kidneys' ability to flush these wastes from our body.
And don't forget the water! Our bodies need clean, pure water to flush wastes efficiently.
Special Supplements for Special Energy Needs.
Coenzyme Q10/100 is an essential part of each cell's metabolic cycle that generates cellular energy. It is responsible for transporting energy from one enzyme to another during the process. However, as we age our synthesis of Coenzyme Q10 generally declines significantly so that a deficiency can develop. Supplementary CoQ10 is being recognized now as very helpful for heart function. The muscles of the heart, more than any other cells in the body, contain many mitochondria and must produce energy continuously.
Among, its many functions, L-carnitine draws fatty acid molecules into the mitochondria, where they are burned to produce energy. In doing so, the level of blood triglycerides is reduced. A deficiency of L-carnitine can result in the buildup of fat in muscles, heart and liver. Athletes using L-carnitine have a lower respiratory quotient, suggesting that muscles were able to burn fat more efficiently. This means that carbohydrate stores were spared with a resulting increase in endurance.
Vitamin B12 is important for preventing anemia and is active in at least two phases ( "oxygen transporter" and "methyl donor") in cellular energy production. Deficiencies of B12 can produce fatigue. Supplemental B12 will not give extra energy when there is no deficiency. NSP's Vitamin B12 Complete is an easily-absorbed liquid that adds 50% Daily Value amounts of complementary B complex vitamins to 1000 mcg of B12, which is 16,666% the Daily Value.
Adaptogenic herbs such as Ginseng have a long history of use to increase energy and vitality. Although their biochemistry is complex and their action are more general, their benefits are well-known and predictable.
Korean Ginseng is warming and best for weakness and debility.
Wild American Ginseng is cooling and best for the stress of modern life.
Siberian Ginseng (Eleuthero) is best for the stress of athletic performance. However, all three herbs will help to restore balance and cellular vitality.
