thumbs pointing upward. If the client cannot resist downward pressure,
they have end plate injury
or bone against bone.
SYSTEMIC
GOUTY ARTHRITIS TEST
The client's arms are straight out with their thumbs pointing upward.
If the client cannot resist downward pressure, they have systemic
gouty arthritis.
LOW
BLOOD CALCIUM TEST
The client's arms are straight out with their thumbs pointing forward.
If the client cannot resist downward pressure, they have low
blood calcium.
OSTEOARTHRITIS TEST
The client's arms are straight out with their thumbs pointing downward.
If the client cannot resist downward pressure on both arms at the same time, they have some degree of osteoskeletal weakness or osteoporosis.
SPINAL
DISC TEST
The client's
arms are straight out with their thumbs pointing backward.
If the client cannot resist downward pressure on both arms at the
same time, they have swollen, subluxated or slipped spinal
disc.
